The parents, who’d traveled from Memphis, Tennessee, had to pull over at Interchange 8A at Jamesburg/Cranbury for help, State Police Supt. Col. Patrick Callahan said.
The woman's husband led Troopers Robert Murray and Pierre Noel from the Troop D Cranbury barracks to the cab of his tractor, where his wife was lying in a bunk preparing to give birth to their fifth child, Callahan said during Saturday’s daily coronavirus briefing with Gov. Phil Murphy.
The troopers and members of Monroe Township EMS delivered the newborn, wrapping her in towels and blankets that Noel and Ziobron got from their cruiser.
Shortly after giving birth, the mother became incoherent and lethargic due to a significant loss of blood during the delivery.
The mother, who'd become lethargic and incoherent due to a loss of blood, was taken along with her baby to St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Both were doing well as of Sunday morning, authorities said.
